A few words about greening through PRODUCTS:
After years of sourcing, screening and product analysis we turned our consulting onto manufacturers in effort to help accelerate the rate of new and better products getting onto the market. While our consulting was effective and in high demand, there was a frustrating element as there was only so much that could be done in greening a business before hitting roadblocks – specifically, while individual acts of conservation were helpful, there were not enough other green companies to use for feed stock, so to speak. Instead, there was a horrendous onslaught of necessary evils (such as posionous plastics and harmful hidden chemicals) that were impossible for even the most environmentally minded companies to avoid.
It follows that no matter how many reports we wrote or how many good initiatives companies worked on, at the end of the day, businesses were still buying products and supporting companies that were often working in opposition to their environmental goals. As such, Green Shift, in line with our original goal of making it easy and cost effective for companies to be green, developed a distribution company – the Green Supply House. Essentially, we operate a form of endorsement program with a goal of creating a looping support network of good responsible companies and organizations – from manufacturers through to the end consumers.
Green Shift™ carefully sources and investigates products, factoring in the entire lifecycle of the product and the companies behind the products, because not only is green washing in individual products rampant, a key aspect that many people sadly overlook is that it is not just what you buy but where you buy it that counts. In other words, while a product itself may be “green” one should always consider the companies they are supporting in each purchase and whether helping that company to thrive will help or hinder environmental progress.
It should be noted that a lot of the products we carry are not glamorous. We have instead focused on mass use items that should have been replaced long ago. The options are always expanding however and we try to take on products whenever we can find a willing market.
